December 2010

december 7, 2010

“President gave away the farm… “
Yeah, by ‘cutting deal’ with republicans the Precedent managed to do something seemingly unimaginable, infuriate not just the left wing of his party (he’s been pretty good at that so far), but basically majority of it!
Even guys like James Carvill or… and that’s just unbelievable, Roland Martin (!) criticise him! And that was before this new embarrassment… Oh, ’brothers’ must be really pissed if already some commentators make comparisons that are favourable to the ‘previous administration’! Telling Obama to ‘buckle up’ and… fight. Yeah, where is ‘The Rock Obama’?
Jessica Jelen from CNN even noticed that he seems to be so calm talking about the republicans but gets quite angry with his democratic collegues... But the 'good news' is that this time he doesn’t need that many democrats to get enough votes, the republicans couldn't be happier!
And he's fine with it, that's for sure. Having another Martini and basking in his imaginary greatness...  Probably also the first president so detached from reality.

July 22, 2008

Ooops… could I have been more wrong?! This ‘traitor’, Iraqi prime minister, suddenly on the same page with Obama?! His statement that Iraq would like to see American troops to be gone before 2010 is a total shocker, not just for the Bush administration, but many Americans. Of course, it totally supports Obama’s plans to withdraw the US troops within 16 months into his ... prospective presidency.
But then, it must have something to do with the coming Iraq elections, so the question is what is that this Malaki guy  tries to gain by splitting from the White House and giving a considerable boost the democratic nominee…
Interesting what David Gergen, the former advisor to four presidents (love this guy. I hang on every word coming from him) said.
“[Obama] clearly overstepped his autority. I don’t remember when a presidential candidate negotiated (he used this word) with a foreign leader. Especially something as important as the war. We have the president, and it’s his job”.
To Obama’s credit, he did admit to be wrong when he opposed the surge. Very honourable, candidate. Still, how many times can you be wrong? And still hold your head so high… (Like, a bit too high?).
Yeah, his supporters will continue saying that he opposed the war to begin with. And, that the Americans will need more soldiers in Afghanistan. Sure, but this Afghanistan situation... Hasn’t it been like… forever? That not just the Americans but also Canadians, Poles and others have been urging for reinforcements?
Actually, I wanted to write about it long ago. That Poland gave Canada some helicopters and both countries agreed that they need more troops. Esp. Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs was very vocal on the subject at some NATO meeting. Also stressing that the Germans and French should move their forces from northern, much safer areas, to those where it’s getting really ‘hot’. That was at least 8-10 months ago…
Last night one of the commentators just mentioned that Obama talked like he already were the president. But nobody really picked on it. Right now, I’m watching his speech in Jordan.
“… as president I will…”  And that was a written speech.
But later, answering questions, a few times he used the phrases like “as a potential (should I be) Commander in Chief”.  Good.

November 3, 2008 Little Follow Up...

Later at night, I still watched some CNN. There was this comedian, D. L. Hughly. I always liked him, saw him a few times on The Tonight Show and he was alwyas, not just funny but… simply likable. But now, as they gave him his own show, I don't know... Still seems like someone (let me use this ‘electoral cliché‘) you’d go and grab a beer with but… not that funny.
In the more serious part of this show of his was talking to... (someone from some organization, don’t really remember) about the ’Bradley Effect’ - white people saying what’s politically correct for the polls, but voting against a black candidate.
“I think that the Bradley Effect disappeared somewhere… in the 1990s.". Says the nice lady. "When Bill Clinton…” changed some legislation or something. Sorry, I didn't pay that much attention. What she was saying is that at that time racism somehow seemed to be subsiding.
Hm... Even if so, in 1995, after OJ got pass from 'his jury', it (call it neo-racism) definitely came back. Even if maybe there was no clear evidence like the Rodney King case. The 'whities' didn't forget all the crazy eruption of joy among blacks, after 'da brother' was set free.
We got a little ’preview’ of what may happen on Tuesday (and… after) just an hour later. They had those three commentators, as usual, one from each party and somebody ’neutral’. On behalf of the democrats there was Roland Martin. I like this guy, he is always passionate but fair. His comments are usually well balanced. Last night… Was he drunk? Already? He acted like a little, giddy kid. Seriously, laughing almost maniacally, making exaggerated... OK, stupid faces... You think now I’m exaggerating? Let’s see what happens…
Strangely, not just D.L. Hughly was not really funny. Larry King assembled a quite decent pack of comedians but… John Stewart’s “Sarah Palin going rouge“? Give me a break.
Even Kathy Griffin took some three minutes to elaborate how spooky the name “Vasilla” sounds. “Isn’t it like a place you’d like to get out of? […] “I don’t think Vasilla is a place people dream about… “Oh, one day, when I retire I'd settle..."
O c'mon girl. You can do better than that. And she can be funny!
And, obviously, no Obama jokes. When Larry pointed that out, Uuuuhm... someone murmured something about his ‘skinny stature”. Oh, and… “Did you see his ears?!” But no joke here. And that‘s about it.
Is everybody so scared of being called racist?! Black comedians have no problems with Palin, even if they could be ’double labeled’, as being racists and sexists.
If I were there (hmmm...), I would have something what has nothing to do with race. Again, it’s this 'little something' somehow nobody picks on, his disastrous ignorance when it comes to international politics! (Did anyone say Sarah Palin has ’limited experience’?).
The only problem I’d have would be how to beat what HE said himself. You have Russia invading Georgia, and he treats both as ’trouble makers'. So, how to make it even more funny? “What would president Obama do if Russia invaded… Lichtenstein?” It’s still too far…
OK, how about “if China invaded Bhutan?” Eh, is that funny? At least I tried.
As usual, Jay Leno doesn't disappoint. “Senator Obama went to ‘trick or treat’ with his children, but only to houses where people make 250 thousand dollars or more… That is funny.

November 4 (Post) Election Day

Obama won, surprise, surprise… This ‘recovery week’ on Wall Street came a bit too late. After conventions, they were both head to head. At some point, McCain even a couple of points ahead…
They can talk forever about Obama’s organization skills, what a perfect campaigner he is… It was dead heat before people got really scared, and ready for any change. So, to change the government would be a, kinda, logical move, I'd guess.
And Obama, through his ridiculous, ’total advertising’ (same infomercial simultaneously on four channels?!), kept pounding… (Oh no, it was called “staying on message”) da slogan that 'McCain is another Bush'... And what a problem to find a picture of his opponent hugging the 'sitting duck', prez? They belong to the same party, remember?
At least Bush isn’t a racist. Would anyone, who has just a bit of common sense, believe that for 20 years Obama hadn’t ’noticed’ that his mentor was a hardcore racist?! To me it’s obvious that  rev. Jeremiah  Wright was absolutely right (sorry for this cheap pun) saying (publicly) that Barack couldn’t admit to sharing his views because, quite obviously, he “could never be elected president”. (His exact words).
If he didn’t agree with his mentor (as he called him) in any-thing, why, as some pointed out, not simply leave the church?
So, the naïve Yankees got themselves a first black and, almost openly, racist president! But who cares?
So much was said about the ‘dirty campaign’ on part of McCain, but maybe the only reason why Obama’s campaign was so “clean” is that they tried, but simply couldn’t find, any racists among McCain’s and Palin’s associates?
As for Sarah Palin (I'll definitely go back to her!), at least she's natural. I don’t like pretentious people, that’s it. Actually, I wanted to say “nobody likes pretentious people’ but looks like… millions adore this fake! Sure, I think Obama is… I don’t know if he’s a snob (you have to know a person a bit better than from speeches and debates), but he’s a definition of pretentious.
Oh, what’s that? (I’m watching this circus right now. No really). Uh, it’s McCain’s turn ‘to be gracious”, and he seems to be doing a pretty good job. Oouuuh...
“… and that’s why this is the greatest nation on earth!”
Good, time to switch back to “Criminal Minds”. The commercial break is over.
What now? They just caught a weirdo, who was making video at a boy’s funeral. The FBI profilers are sure that they have the boy’s killer. Turns out he’s not, only ‘bragged’ about molesting the kid... You know, boys will be boys. But there was no evidence of any sexual activity. So, he’s "just a creep, but not the murderer".
“Sorry, it’s not him”. Says one of the agents to the boy's mother.

“How many of them is there?!!”
  “More than you think”.
And many more than in other parts of the world. Those parts inhabited by ‘less greatest’ nations on earth.

November 2, The Election

Oh man, I’m really tired of this. Same all, same all. Practically stopped watching this shit. Yes, the fact that McCain lost any chance to win the election definitely has something to do with it.
Why am I so much against Obama? Because he’s a fake. I talked about it, but long ago. All this ‘high school drama’ during the primaries (he and Michele acted like kids who try to be cool), his facial expressions... Remember the cover (whatever magazine it was) showing his handsome face… head slightly raised, like he’s looking down on everybody, and the title "Snob"?
To me, he doesn’t look (and sound) anything like a scholar. More like an ’A’ student. You know, this annoying nerd who is always prepared and raises his hand?
"Change, change!" - this mantra wouldn’t help him this much if suddenly markets went up, not so horribly down, and made people desperate for any change. He’s already making some changes. In his, so characteristic, calm way (as oppose to this ’erratic’ Mc Cain‘s… what a BS! The guy was never erratic in 30 years, even after his 6 year long imprisonment), he made a couple of, quite important, changes; his definition of ’middle class’. For months, it supposed to be those who make over 250 000. Now, in a space of just a few days, he dropped the number to 200 000, and then to 150 000...
The commentators talk about it, show hosts make jokes, but so what? He has already more than needed electoral votes, practically can call himself president and... doesn’t waste his time.
What Sarah Palin said today, that he’d go back to his idea of taxing everybody who makes 42 000 (he voted for that!) sounds quite plausible. Doesn’t it? But then, who cares?
And, sure, he’ll have to raise taxes b/c he never explained where he’s going to get all the money from… You know, the money to fulfill all his promises. So what, he said he wouldn’t raise taxis for 95% of desperate Americans, and it sounds pretty great!
So the race is over, black folks… OK, this is, obviously, a 'dangerous territory', I need a bit more time. Will go back to that. Today Obama said that after Tuesday there will be some healing to do (I’m sure he put it more eloquently, just heard a comment). Healing? There will be mooore healing to do in four years, my friends… Remember how… different was the reaction on both sides when some O.J. Simpson got aquitted?

October 19, 2008 Colin Powell

Huge boost for Obama! The endorsement of Collin Powell... Well, if he says that he believes in Obama’s ability to handle international affairs… This is big. Obama’s victory seems almost certain.
But then, I was watching (just for a few minutes, enough to ’get the point’) another piece on all this "making history" afair and… If they (CNN) don’t want to hurt Obama’s chances maybe they should go easy on these programs. As I mentioned, I’m not a racist and don’t really care who’s going to win (as I said, we still have NATO, and if somebody invades Poland also the US is bound to help us militarily), but when I see all these folks saying how important this ‘making history’ for them is… They don’t even have to go that far in this history to find enough reasons to write a word ‘revenge’ on their foreheads.
I think that the endorsement of someone of Powell’s stature would be much more significant to all voters if the guy weren’t black. Because the obvious question is, why now? Two weeks before the election?! The commentators discussed his possible involvement months ago. And back then it wasn’t so clear who he’d support. And, so suddenly, now? Doesn’t it look like a pretty desperate attempt to give a ‘decisive push’ to a desperate 'brother'?
